Weekend Wisdom: Make The Ordinary Come Alive

My friend Amy posted this on Facebook and once I saw it, I knew it had to be part of “Weekend Wisdom.”

I believe children are forced to be an extraordinary person and live an extraordinary life from the moment they are born. In my opinion, this pressure was first put on Baby Boomers (no facts or figures to support this, just a gut feeling).  Prior generations knew the simple joys of an ordinary life but now those days are “Gone With The Wind” – or are they?

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.

Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.

Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.

Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.

Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.

Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.

And make the ordinary come alive for them.

The extraordinary will take care of itself.

How will  you make the ordinary come alive for either you or the child (children) in your life?
