Project 3:16

Project 3:16 – Nehemiah

Today we are looking at Nehemiah because Ezra chapter 3 only has 13 verses.

According to the ESV introduction, the overall theme of Nehemiah is threefold:

  • Lord’s protection of his people
  • need for them to keep the Torah (Mosaic Law)
  • faithfulness in worship

Chapter 3 deals with the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall.

16 After him Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, ruler of half the district of Beth-zur, repaired to a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool, and as far as the house of the mighty men.

Nehemiah 3:16 (ESV)

We all need walls in our life to keep invaders out of our homes and out of our spiritual lives.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)

God protects His people but it sometimes requires effort on our part. Nehemiah lead the people in rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall but God kept them safe as they worked.

What walls need to be rebuilt or reinforced in your life?

Spiritual Prepping

{Day 24} Spiritual Prepping: Walls

Happy Psalm Sunday and welcome to day 24 of 31 Days of Spiritual Prepping. It is home stretch week and the finish line is in sight. Yeah!

Today’s Verse

My New International Version Bible was a gift from my mother in either 1990 or 1991, so the version I have is probably the one published in 1984. I can’t say for certain as the copyright pages and numerous others fell out years ago. The first page in my Bible is the Table of Contents.

I mention this because at Bible Gateway this NIV verse reads “May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.” Personally I like the wording from my NIV version better.

There is just something very regal, eloquent about the words “In your good pleasure.”

Not only do you need to spiritually prepare your heart for times of trouble, but you should pray for others to withstand whatever wickedness comes their way.

Prayer Drive

This is one of the verses I pray while doing a prayer drive around my city. Only I substitute my county for Zion and my city for Jerusalem.

I drive around the borders of my city and pray God will build up or reinforce the city walls on every border, especially against spiritual attacks. I also pray for the cities on the other side the border (street) as well.

I pray for the walls of my county to be built up so they can withstand spiritual battles too. The best way to reinforce the walls of the city, is to make sure the walls of the county are in good shape…and the best way to make sure the walls of the county are in good shape is to build up the walls of the city.

Prayers are said for certain houses and businesses on the city borders. What houses and businesses just depends upon what God puts on my heart. Don’t worry, the city center does not get left out as I drive down main street as well.

These prayer drives bring me a lot of joy. I hope people experience unexpected blessings and see God unexpectedly work in their lives because of my prayers.

Try a prayer drive someday and see if it does not bring you joy.
