I heard from Chuck last night and he has reached the #2 spot in Love and Romance but the number of downloads slowed so he is now at the #5 spot. Downloads are what matters in determining rankings and not the number of people who read a book. I never knew that fact.
The goal is to reach #1 in downloads because per Chuck:
It makes a big difference to reach #1 compared to #2, in prestige as well as long-term rankings.
When you are starting a new business, you need all the help and prestige you can get.
