What True Networking Is About

True networking is not just about you but also about other people.

You might not see the value in a relationship with Suzi but maybe at the event you attend 2 months later you and Fred meet.  After talking to him, you know he will benefit from talking to Suzi.  However, she is not at this event but you do have her contact information at home.  So you tell Fred about Suzi and when you get home you email Fred her contact information.

That is called being a connector and it is part of networking.

Future Value

When we meet you might not see how knowing me will benefit you. However, somewhere down the road you might decide we need to have coffee and discuss some things.  That is called future value.

Info Overload

If you do not want to keep business cards, then put the persons contact information in an Excel spreadsheet, Access database or a Word document.

Keep contact information handy, you never know when you will need it or when someone you know or just met will need it.  You would want someone to treat you with the same courtesy.

“You Must Remember This”

It all goes back to:

“…Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Matthew 23:39

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”  Matthew 7:12 (NIV)
