(Author’s Note: Before I get into reviewing my year, I want to share this link to Widow’s Christian Place. Ferree created a plan to read the Bible through a year designed for widows and others who are grieving. This is the link to the article and the January plan.)
Well it’s another New Year’s Eve, a time for reflecting on 2016 and setting goals for the 2017.
It’s been a rough year for me personally and for this blog. Readership dropped in half. This was due to my computer crashing and not able to replace it. The new job I started did not pay enough for such a luxury.
By the grace of God, the computer and internet issue was resolved last week. You will find more posts on JoyReturns in 2017. There is a new weekly series starting tomorrow – 52 Bible Verses for a Joy Filled 2017. Every Sunday you will find a new verse on the blog to help guide you through the coming week.
2016 Highlights
While 2016 was rough, it did have wonderful moments.
- The Cavalier’s ended Cleveland’s 52 year major championship drought by winning the NBA title. It was sweet to get that monkey off Northeast Ohio’s back. For decades our sports teams were the laughing stock of the country. No more.
- The Indian’s almost won the World Series. It was a thrill to watch them but yet it was aggravating that they could not win it all – but wait till next year Chicago. We are taking you out in 5 games.
- Then there was the Republican Convention. It was an interesting once in a life time experience. I volunteered at the hotel where the wonderful people of the New Mexico delegation stayed. It meant a lot that they were in a strange city and one of the volunteers at their hotel had been all over their home state. Joe and I were everywhere except Santa Fe on our trips to see my Dad and Mom #2.
Book Launch Teams – Another Highlight
Another highlight for 2016 was participating on 2 book launch teams. The first team I was chosen for was Ann Voskamp’s The Broken Way launch team. All I did was apply online after seeing the opportunity on her Facebook page. God did the rest of the work. When 3,000 people apply it takes divine intervention to be one of the 800 chosen.
Then I was chosen for Kelly Balarie’s book launch team and previewed Fear Fighting , Awakening Courage to Overcome Your Fears (releases 1/3/17). It is a wonderful book and I suggest you preorder it because we all have fears. A full review is coming on 1/2. It is a great time being on her team and helping to spread the word about her book.
2016 Lowlight – Return to Job Search Mode
After a 6 month training program there were only 3 positions open and 5 of us in the class, so back to the unemployment line. Ugh!!! It is not what I wanted but I knew when I started the new job, it was a possibility. The company was very upfront about how the training class worked.
At least I was able to get the mortgage payment reduced due to the low salary they were paying.
Moving Forward Into 2017
So it is on to 2017. I’m still holding on to hope to land a job that will pay the bills and allow me to get financially on solid ground. After all, I want another golden retriever to love but need to know I can afford his/her’s food, treats, toys and vet bills.
My Plans For New Year’s Eve
I will spend the night and most likely the weekend, reading, setting goals, and deciding on a word that will be my guide for 2017 and rearranging my office.
I wish you a safe and fun New Year’s Eve.
May your 2017 be filled with health, prosperity and joy.
God bless you and your family.
