Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!

Did you know that on March 25th, 1961 a concert took place to help raise funds for the USS Arizona Memorial Fund. The line up included Floyd Cramer, the Jordanaires, jazz saxophonist Boots Randolph, and comedienne Minnie Pearl. The headliner was Elvis.

Now enjoy this video of Elvis singing American Trilogy during his Aloha from Hawaii concert (1973).

Thank you for your service Elvis, and for your concert that helped raise money for the USS Arizona Memorial Fund.

Return To Weekend Wisdom

How Weekend Wisdom Was Born

The prospect of blogging 7 days a week was very intimidating, so I only posted 5 days a week when I started blogging.

Then one day, I came up with the idea of posting uplifting poems, quotes, scripture or song lyrics on the weekend.  That way I was posting 7 days a week but only writing original posts 5 days a week – and so Weekend Wisdom was born.

It went away for the 31 Days of Joy in October, but it is now back at least until the holidays.

The Return

I was not planning on bringing back Weekend Wisdom until next weekend but these lyrics stood out as I was listening to this song yesterday. I knew I had to Return To Sender Weekend Wisdom today.

But as long as a man has the strength to dream,

he can redeem his soul and fly.

May your dreams and your soul fly high this week – and always.

Sing It Elvis

You will have to click the link to hear one of the greatest Elvis performances ever.  No matter what I do, the video will not appear.

31 Days of Joy: Day 20 – The Truth About God’s Word

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.

Isaiah 40:8

Words like:

  • Genesis 1:1
  • Deuteronomy 33:27
  • Leviticus 18:22
  • Job 22:2
  • Proverbs 3:5
  • Ecclesiastes 7:10
  • Song of Songs 1:1
  • Jeremiah 28:9
  • Lamentations 3:22
  • Habakkuk 3:2
  • Malachi 4:6
  • Matthew 1:1
  • Luke 5:31
  • John 1:14
  • Romans 8:28
  • Ephesians 5:17
  • 1 Timothy 5:8
  • Revelation 22:21

All these verses and those in between them are the word of God. You may or may not believe them but they will last for all eternity.

What man says and the rules and laws he institutes will not last.  They will go bye-bye.

The words of our great, loving, generous and forgiving God are forever and that brings me great joy.

Memorial Day Spotlight: USS Arizona

Today I want to highlight the USS Arizona memorial and a fact about it’s financing I came across while reading the back of bubble gum cards.

On March 25th, 1961 a concert was held to help raise funds for the construction of the U.S.S. Arizona memorial.  The concert raised $64,000.00.

Now I am a HUGE fan of the man who performed that night but had no idea he helped raise money for the memorial. Then one day as I am sorting through some stuff in the basement, I came across bubble gum cards and started reading the information on the back.  It was one of those cards that I came across this information.

The performer that night – Elvis Presley.

Read all about the concert and the funding for the memorial at ScottyMoore.net

The day after Elvis’ passing the Navy laid a wreath at the memorial in honor of Elvis who served in the Army.

“The Impossible Dream” by Elvis Presley

I am a HUGE Elvis fan and could not let today go by with out paying tribute to “The King.”

On my way home from work last night, Elvis sang the following and the words really spoke to me:

“And the world will be better for this

That one man scorned and covered with scars

Still strove with his last ounce of courage

To reach the unreachable star.”

“The Impossible Dream”

Lyrics by Joe Darion

from the musical Man of La Mancha

May these words inspire you and may you always reach the unreachable star!

“The Sound Of Your Cry”

The Sound Of Your Cry

The clock by the bed is ticking, too loud in the quiet night

I lie in the darkness thinking, I must go before it’s light

Before you open up your eyes and you beg me to stay

I’ll leave ’cause I can’t stand to see you hurt this way
Sleep my love as I kiss you goodbye

Then I won’t hear the sound of your cry
Though I knew the time was coming and our love would end somehow

I just couldn’t bear to tell you exactly just when or how

I know we can’t go on, that it was wrong to start

But if you wake up crying now, you’ll break my heart
Sleep my love as I kiss you goodbye

Then I won’t hear the sound of your cry
Oh, sleep my love as I kiss you, kiss you goodbye

Then I won’t hear the sound of your cry
Oh, sleep my love as I kiss you, kiss you, kiss you goodbye

Then I won’t hear the sound of your cry
Oh, sleep my love as I kiss you goodbye

Then I won’t hear the sound of your cry

As sung by Elvis Presley

I have listened to this song numerous times since downloading “Elvis Country – Legacy Edition” earlier this year.  It is about  a couple ending their relationship and the man  is unable to bear the sound of her crying so he leaves while she is asleep.

A break-up song, that is all it is or should I say was, because last Thursday night the lyrics took on a new meaning.

Our Final Goodbye

You see Joe was on life-support when I said my final goodbye to him.  If he was conscious and knew he was dying and we had to say our goodbye’s under those circumstances, it would have been even more painful.   It might have been a moment that I would never have let go and thus would have prevented me from moving forward in life.

The sound of his cry would have been unbearable to me and the sound of my cry would have been unbearable to him.   Saying goodbye to him while he was on life support was a blessing.  It did not seem so at the time, but now I know it was a blessing.

“That’s Life”

Yes, I got smacked upside the head with a 2 x 4 from grief Thursday night.  But that is life as a widow.  Just when you least expect it

 BAM!

I took a few moments to breathe deeply and regain my composure. Then I went and ate dinner – for you see life keeps moving forward.

Even when the only sound you hear is the sound of your own cry.

How To Make A Snow Angel – Rommie Style

We got a little snow over the weekend and Rommie requested I show you how she makes snow angels.  I love seeing her roll in the snow and shaking her legs. She looks so carefree having so much fun all the while ignoring the bitter cold.

Hopefully this puts a smile on your face.

Love, Hugs and Ice Cold Sloppy Wet Kisses to you all.
