Weekend Wisdom

Advent Wisdom: Hope

This week the Hope candle is lit as we celebrate the first Sunday in Advent. This year I have my own advent candelabra and will be lighting it each week.

It is wood and hobnail glass and given to me by my mother. The leaves came from my neighbor, the throw on the wall Joe bought because he loved Frank Lloyd Wright and the little cardinal sitting on the joy rock was bought by me.

Here are verses from the Old Testament that foretell Jesus’ birth.

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel

Isaiah 7:24 (NKJV – New King James Version)

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old,
    from ancient days.

Micah 5:2 (ESV – English Standard Version)

“When Israel was a child, I loved him,
And out of Egypt I called My son.

Hosea 11:1 (NKJV – New King James Version)
