Project 3:16

Project 3:16 – Nehemiah

Today we are looking at Nehemiah because Ezra chapter 3 only has 13 verses.

According to the ESV introduction, the overall theme of Nehemiah is threefold:

  • Lord’s protection of his people
  • need for them to keep the Torah (Mosaic Law)
  • faithfulness in worship

Chapter 3 deals with the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall.

16 After him Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, ruler of half the district of Beth-zur, repaired to a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool, and as far as the house of the mighty men.

We all need walls in our life to keep invaders out of our homes and out of our spiritual lives.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)

God protects His people but it sometimes requires effort on our part. Nehemiah lead the people in rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall but God kept them safe as they worked.

What walls need to be rebuilt or reinforced in your life?
