Quiet Time With Isaiah

Yesterday morning I opened my NIV Bible and found myself reading Isaiah 42:

Here is my servant, whom I uphold,

    my chosen one in whom I delight;

I will put my Spirit on him,

    and he will bring justice to the nations.

Not only did I find comfort in the first eight verses but I was intrigued to learn more about Isaiah. So I turned the pages and went to the introduction. (Don’t read the introduction before you go to bed, you might have nightmares.)

The “Themes and Theology” section in my NIV not only describes Israel back in the day, but also describes our country today. After the first paragraph describes Israel’s sins, the second paragraph states:

Yet God will have compassion on his people (14:1-2 and will rescue them from both political and spiritual opposition.

Again, I find comfort and joy in knowing that God redeemed Israel and He will someday redeem America as well. It might be 1,000 years from now but He will do it in His time not ours.

Over all I spent at least an hour reading Isaiah before spending the rest of the day on the road.

Isaiah and I will have to spend more quality time together.
