Today’s Weekend Wisdom quote appeared in the newsletter from author Charissa Stastny. When I read Abraham Lincoln’s quote, this picture immediately came to mind.
Merriam-Webster defines mercy as : compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one’s power
Justice is defined as: the maintenance or administration of what is just especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishments
Now for those confusing mercy and grace, Merriam Webster defines grace as: unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification
The bottom line is instead of punishing people we have power over, we have mercy on them by withholding punishment and extend grace by giving them something good.
