Sweet Hymns of Joy – Go Tell It On The Mountain

Welcome to week 3 of Sweet Hymns of Joy, a series of Christmas hymns inspired by the words from O Holy Night. (Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we)

This week Neil Diamond is singing Go Tell It On The Mountain. A couple of years ago this song was part of a Christmas show put on my the children. Only this version was “countrified” and included a few of us audience members chiming in with some “Yeeeee Hawwwwws.”

The closest I could get to that is Neil’s acoustic version, which is from his new album Acoustic Christmas

Enjoy and insert your own “Yeeeeeee Haaawwwwwsss.”

While shepherds kept their watching
Over silent flocks at night,
Behold throughout the heavens,
There shone a holy light:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

The shepherds feared and trembled
When lo! above the earth
Rang out the angel chorus
That hailed our Saviour’s birth:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

Down in a lowly manger
Our humble Christ was born
And God send us salvation,
That blessed Christmas morn’:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

When I am a seeker,
I seek both night and day;
I seek the Lord to help me,
And He shows me the way:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.
