My Post Election Reading List

Happy Thanksgiving week.

I was not going to do a post about the election, but then as I sit her at the library using their computer, I changed my mind.

So here is your post election reading list suitable for Thanksgiving week. All of these books would make excellent gifts for Christmas or anytime of the year.

The List

One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are – Ann Voskamp – Because you do have so many things to be thankful for even if your candidate did not win the election. What better week to start and take stock of God’s blessings in your life.

“Remember what Jesus has always done when he was down – give thanks to the Lord. Never ask for more, only give thanks.”

Ann Voskamp

One Thousand Gifts

The Broken Way: A Daring Path Into The Abundant Life – Ann Voskamp  – You can live a wonderful life in spite of experiencing nasty live events. The key to living through them, is giving even though you are broken and hurting. Because through giving, God’s light gets into your cracks and heals you.

“Somehow Love can lodge light into wounds.”

Ann Voskamp

The Broken Way

(pg 26)

Fight Back With Joy: Celebrate More. Regret Less. Stare Down Your Greatest Fears.  – Margaret Feinberg – I read this on my Kindle earlier this year and loved it. This is definitely a book where you need a journal, pen, and highlighter.  The author found a way to fight cancer with joy and since she can do it fighting a life-threatening disease, you can use joy to fight what ever battle you are fighting.

Joy means holding on to hope in God regardless of the outcome.”

Margaret Feinberg

Fight Back With Joy

(Page 149)

Let’s All Be Brave: Living Life With Everything You Have – Annie F. Downs – A book full of stories about being brave at different times and in different situations. I read the Kindle version and yest, it is another pen, highlighter and journal book.

Brave people let go when it’s time to let go.”

“And so I turn these empty hands skyward, trusting they are better off this way.”

Annie F. Downs

Let’s All Be Brave

(pg 131)

Yes, your empty hands are better off being turned upward to God. Use this week to start turning your hands upward in praise and thanksgiving. It is not physically difficult, but it can be mentally difficult. Use this week to start getting over that mental hurdle.

and remember

“As long as thanks is possible, then joy is always possible.”

Ann Voskamp
