Welcome to Day 3 of 31 Days of Joy Filled Job Searching.
Today’s topic is the foundation for my mornings.
Having a foundation provides security and stability to the start of my day and during a job search I need all the security and stability I can get. You will too if you ever find yourself in the unemployment line.
Drink
Every morning I get out of bed and stumble to the kitchen and fix myself a cup of green tea. Prior to October mint coffee was the drink of choice every morning. Green tea helps with anxiety per last month’s issue of Prevention magazine. Dark chocolate also helps with anxiety, so combine the two and give job search anxiety a good swift kick in the rear.
Devotion
Currently, I am working through another 40 day prayer challenge. This is the 4th time this year I’ve read Mark Batterson’s book Draw the Circle: The 40 Day Prayer Challenge. The whole book is wonderful and uplifts and energizes me.
I work on memorizing verses associated with that day’s devotion. One of my new favorite verses is:
Awake, and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my God and Lord.
Psalm 35:23
NIV
Yes God, please contend for me through out my day as I attend dinners, luncheons and other networking events. Put quality people that will help in one way or another in my path.
Prayer
After reading my devotion, I pray using the verse and the words of the devotion and apply them to my job search.
God, please contend for me through out my day. Bring quality people into my life that will help in one way or another with the job search. I have some now but more people who know of dinners, luncheons or other networking events. Even just being asked to meet a group of people for coffee at Panera or Starbucks would be nice.
While prayer time does not last as long as it should, thanks to my introverted brain running in a million different directions at warp speed, I am working on increasing my time in prayer.
Foundation
Those are the 3 things I do every morning before I start work on my job search. I will pray through out the day as I work on tweaking the resume, attending classes at the re-employment office or chatting online with my friends from WorkItDaily.com.
Thankful
Today I am thankful for green tea, dark chocolate, and the Draw the Circle: The 40 Day Prayer Challenge.
