Why I Volunteered At The RNC

Last week I had the privilege to be a volunteer worker at the hotel  the delegates from New Mexico called “home” during the Republican National Convention.

It was a thrilling for this history buff to be a part of historic event.

That was one reason I did it.

Here are the other reasons:

Hospitality

Extend to the New Mexico delegation the hospitality extended to me, Joe, Dad and Jackie as we traveled around the state. Dad and Step Mom lived there for  20 years or so and Joe and I visited about 5 or 6 times. We always went in October for the Balloon Fiesta. (link to this year’s site)

There was nothing more Dad loved than to get in his white pick’em up truck with the red cap and drive all over the state. Some of the sites we visited were:

and the list goes on and on and on.

Meet and Greet

Not only did I meet and greet delegates but I also met other volunteers and two happened to know my friend motivational speaker Lisa Ryan.

I shared conversation with several volunteers and hotel staff. As a volunteer, I was to be non-partisan while working my shifts. Hmmm….Non partisan at a Republican Convention. I was a good girl and did not wear my red, white and blue elephant scarf. But the conversation naturally drifted towards the convention, Trump and how we see the current state of the country.

I met some wonderful people except for the mysterious LNS who signed up for every shift, every day but never showed up. Some people speculated he/she was someone who was trying to mess everything up. He or She did not succeed.

God Use

Also, I know that God will use my volunteering in someway. Only He knows how my volunteering will affect my life. I go and do and trust He will work good out of it.

Social Life

You are unable to change your life unless you get out there and do things. It is a rarity now a days for me to get out of the house other than work so I took full advantage of this opportunity.

Bottom Line –

The bottom line is I am a child of God who happens to be struggling in some areas of life and saw an opportunity to serve and hopefully make a small difference in the lives of others.

Stay tuned as there are at least 4 lessons I learned while working my 3 shifts. The posts will be published the week of August 1st. My “office” is only open another 90 minutes and then I will not be able to get back online until next weekend.

Have a great week everyone.
