Sunday Hymnal: We Gather Together

Today’s hymn is inspired by people who gather after church at a local diner, those who gather around the table for a big Sunday lunch, or those who gather together at a family reunion.

Gathering together is something we don’t do enough of any more.

Here’s hoping you experience the joy of gathering and connecting with people this week.

The video is another classic I found on YouTube. I believe my Grandma and Grandpa also had some of Tennesse Ernie Ford albums.

We Gather Together

Adrianus Valerius

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known.
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine!

We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant,
And pray that Thou still our Defender will be.
Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

  1. ‘Gathering together’ is something at which I have never succeeded well. At a party, I tend to be the one who hangs out with the dogs in the backyard, or offers to help the caterers.

    Some people are better as outliers, I guess. I was never missed, and I was never unhappy.

    1. I can’t believe people did not miss you. At least you were happy. I was never happy as an outlier as a kid or now as a widow.

      I missed the gathering this past Sunday due to my head feeling like it was going to explode thanks to sinus issues. If it had not been 2 hours away I would have gone.
