Weekend Wisdom Goes To The Birds
It is 9:15 p.m. Eastern time on Friday and the birds are merrily singing their song. It is anything but a lullaby. So I decided to find bird quotes for “Weekend Wisdom.”
The first two pictures were taken at my former job. This beauty was singing up a storm one day. The last one is a bird in his nest on my neighbor’s fence.
I once had a sparrow alight upon my shoulder for a moment, while I was hoeing in a village garden, and I felt that I was more distinguished by that circumstance than I should have been by any epaulet I could have worn.
~Henry David Thoreau
Have you ever observed a humming-bird moving about in an aerial dance among the flowers – a living prismatic gem…. it is a creature of such fairy-like loveliness as to mock all description.
~W.H. Hudson, Green Mansions
God gives every bird its food, but He does not throw it into its nest.
~J.G. Holland
God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages.
~Jacques Deval, Afin de vivre bel et bien
There is nothing in which the birds differ more from man than the way in which they can build and yet leave a landscape as it was before.
~Robert Lynd, The Blue Lion and Other Essays

I especially love W.H. Hudson’s quote as I have marveled at the hummingbird’s dance many times! What a gift from God that is present in all of nature – thanks for sharing!
You are welcome. The hummingbird that visits my house does so because of the silk flower basket. I never know when he/she is going to show up so I’ve not been able to get a picture of him/her.
