An Ah Ha! Moment About Good Will

(Authors Note: The post “Seeing Hope In Actions” is still being worked on and will be published next week. In the meantime enjoy this brief article originally published November 9th, 2011 about an “Ah Ha! moment I had while decorating.)

November 2011

I was putting out Christmas decorations the other day and found some made for me by a deceased person. I was grumbling because of some questions I have about our relationship and the person’s character.

Then while decorating the cedar chest, I found myself humming:

I heard the bells on Christmas Day

Their old familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet the words repeat

Of peace on earth good will to men.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

(1807-1882)

Well Duh!

Then it dawned on me – “good will to men” applies to dead men (and women) as well as the living.

You show good will towards them by honoring their memory, which includes not speaking ill of them.

Your relationship with them might not have been perfect here, but it will be perfect in heaven because –

everything is perfect in heaven.
