Living In The Spirit of James

This post was originally going to be entitled “Oh What A Feeling!” but I decided that should be the title of my post about my first kiss.  Yeah right!  That is never going to happen and I am slowly but surely becoming okay with the idea of no more “sucking face.”

Instead I decided to tell you a little bit about the surprise gift from someone I have not met – yet.  What I got is greatly appreciated and not as important as the spirit behind the gift – James 1:27 (NIV)

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Now distress can be anything from financial, household, automotive or just the fact a woman is widowed.  Being a widow is distressful in and of itself  after all people leave you in their dust because:

  • They do not know what to do for you and don’t want to learn how to help you.
  • You have cooties.  What happened to you will happen to them if they are around you.
  • You are no longer “safe” to be around.  You are now single and got your sights set on every woman’s husband to see which one you can snag.
  • They were friends with you only because they were friends with your husband first.  Since he is no longer around, there is no need to be friends with you.

A Rarity

It is rare when someone acts in the spirit of James 1:27 and when it happens, it will usually be someone new God has brought into the widow’s life.  Someone who shines brighter than the Star of Bethlehem.

So to my new friend – thank you living in the spirit of James 1:27 and being a shining star which brought me great joy.

As Joe would say:

“Live long and prosper.”
