Holiday Gift Idea – “The Impact Equation” – Chris Brogan & Julien Smith

Have someone on your gift list who wants to change the world, or a little piece of it?  Read On.

I was blessed to receive an advance uncorrected proofs of Chris Brogan and Julien Smith’s latest book –

“The Impact Equation, Are You Making Things Happen or Just Making Noise?”

My copy is filled to the brim with pink, green, and black ink along with pink and yellow hi-liter, post – it – notes,  and lots of margin notes.

There are  lots of ideas for making an impact and yes, as the title suggests there is an equation one needs to follow.  It is a 6 part equation  you work on one part at a time.  At the end of each chapter are examples of how people or companies have used the equation.

What This Book Is Not

This is not a book about how to navigate the web or using Twitter versus Facebook versus blogging, instead

“It’s about the ability to help others with your unique ability, whatever that may be.”

The ideas in the book apply to job seekers, people who want to start a business or people wanting to have an impact on their community.

Exposure

One of the equations elements is “Exposure.”  We all need it but the trick is to do it well.  As the author’s state:

“Exposure, when done right, isn’t even noticed. ”

Don’t worry there are plenty of practical ideas for doing exposure right.  There is even an answer to the age old question of  “how often should I blog?”  The answer is so simple and obvious but I have never heard anyone answer the question this way before.

Final Thoughts

Follow the advice in “The Impact Equation” and you will have an impact on the world, or maybe just your little corner of the world.  But even having an impact on your little corner, is better than  not making an impact at all.

Thank You

Thank you Chris and Julien for my advance copy.  Sorry it took so long to write a review.

Author’s Note: This book is on my desk and will be referred to as I work on making an impact with this blog and in my career.   In fact maybe my mantra for next year will be “Making An Impact.”

Now see…you just crossed at least 1 person off your gift list. Woo! Woo!  Now if that isn’t joy, I don’t know what is.                   😉
