Rommie’s Post – Part 1

Introduction

Just before bedtime on adoption day. I was so tired! Photo by Joe Kearns

Woof. Woof.  Hello There!  My name is Rommie (rhymes with Mommy) Kearns.  I am the daughter of Michele and Joe.  Mom decided to take a few days off so I hacked her computer to post my story.

I Meet Mom and Dad

One October day Mom and Dad came and played with my sister and me.  My sister had a pretty red coat and mine is a pretty gold color with red highlights.  Mom and Dad both noticed I had a mellow streak.  There were times during our play session I would sit and chill while my sister was the energizer bunny.   Since both Mom and Dad worked, they figured it was best to adopt me.  The next day I moved in with them and immediately became spoiled rotten.

Our Life

We had a pretty normal life, at least up until Mom and Dad got the harebrained idea to foster my fellow golden cousins.  There have been about 10 dogs in and out during the 3 years they fostered.  The first, a pair of sisters, stayed 7 months.  Was I ever glad to get them adopted out and back to being an only child.  It was okay having foster brothers and sisters around but I never really liked anyone enough to have Mom and Dad adopt a brother or sister.

Katherine

Daddy was having a health issue when foster-sister Katherine came to stay with us.   She was mild-mannered and quiet, until the snow plow came down the street.  Then she would run down the hallway barking at the noise it made.  I don’t know about you, but I like to be sound asleep at 2 a.m.

Once her ear infection went away we held “meet and greets” with potential parents.  None of them were acceptable to Katherine.  She even snapped at one person.  Whoever heard of a golden snapping at someone, especially while being petted?  Oh well, all things happen for a reason.  Katherine knew she was needed here.

Daddy Leaves To Get Fixed

One day Mom came home from work and was very, very happy.  She helped Dad get cleaned up and once he did, he petted us while Mom called the men in blue.  Then Katherine and I were shut in the spare bedroom. We heard the men in blue talking to Mom and Dad.  Then Mom opened the door and we ran and jumped on the couch.  Looking out the window, we saw the men in blue put Daddy in a big red truck and drive off to the human vet hospital.

I never saw my Daddy again.

Coming tomorrow – Part 2

Bio: Rommie Kearns got her name from the Sci-Fi TV show “Andromeda” starring Kevin Sorbo.  Rommie is short for Andromeda.  Alexa Doig is the actress who played Rommie.

Rommie loves life, tennis balls, going to the vet, going to see Grandpa Q. and Grandma B., and Halloween when all these nice people and kids come see her.
