Summer Gardening Tip: Recipe For Homemade Weed Killer

My Dad told me about using vinegar as weed killer.  He said it worked wonders.  It probably did out in the blistering heat of New Mexico.  When I used it here, it was somewhat effective but not what I had hoped.

Then last week my friend Sharon told me about another ingredient to add that makes the mixture work better.

So here is the recipe: 

• Get Spray Bottle (Hmmm…I wonder if this would work in a Super Soaker?)
• Add 1 T of Joy or Dawn or Palmolive (or any other brand)
• Fill rest of bottle with Vinegar.  (I used white)

Then go out and spray on weeds during a sunny day with very little breeze. The dish washing detergent makes the vinegar stick to the weeds.

I did sprayed the weeds out front this afternoon, will update this post in the next day or two with my results.  Hopefully it works well as it is a lot less expensive than Roundup and not as toxic.
